CIRIEC-SPAIN CALLS FOR PAPERS FOR ITS XIX CONGRESS OF SOCIAL ECONOMY RESEARCHERS – MATARÓ, APRIL 2023

As announced two years ago, the Tecnocampus of Mataró will once again host the CIRIEC-Spain Congress of Researchers, since the Congress held there in September 2020, during the height of the pandemic, was able to take place but was affected by COVID-19, resulting in reduced participation and a smaller program than usual.

CIRIEC-Spain calls for papers for the XIX Congress of Social Economy Researchers, which will take place from April 19 to 21, 2023, at the Tecnocampus of Mataró. The general theme of the XIX Congress is "The Role of the Social Economy in a Scenario of Crisis and Uncertainty."

As announced two years ago, Mataró will once again host the CIRIEC-Spain Congress of Researchers, since the Congress held there in September 2020, during the height of the pandemic, was able to take place but was affected by COVID-19, resulting in reduced participation and a smaller program than usual. Therefore, CIRIEC-Spain, along with the Tecnocampus Chair of Social Economy, decided to repeat the congress in Mataró once the pandemic situation subsided, and following the International CIRIEC Congress scheduled in Valencia this June.

The new Congress in Mataró will be structured into 9 general workshops and 13 parallel thematic workshops, which will gather current scientific and practical debates around the social economy, especially focusing on its role in the current scenario of multiple crises and uncertainties.

All researchers are invited to submit their scientific, theoretical, and empirical papers to any of the numerous proposed areas. Additionally, there will be a specific workshop for the presentation of educational communications, where innovations in the teaching of cooperativism and social economy subjects will be primarily showcased. As in previous editions, two awards will be given during the Congress: for the best communications presented by young researchers (both doctoral and non-doctoral) under 35 years old, and for the best doctoral theses defended in the last five years up to December 31, 2022.

According to the 'Call for Papers' document, General Workshops (TG) will accept papers on:

  • The role of the Social Economy in a scenario of crisis and uncertainty
  • The Social Economy in Catalonia and Spain
  • Labor societies and the new production model
  • History of Cooperativism
  • Self-management and participation in cooperatives and the Social Economy
  • The new generation of public policies towards the Social and Solidarity Economy
  • The Social and Solidarity Economy in the ecological transition
  • Social finance, ethical banking, social currencies, and impact investments
  • Legal challenges and innovations in the Social Economy

Selected topics for Thematic Workshops are:

T.1.- Entrepreneurship in the social economy through university spin-offs and start-ups
T.2.- Contribution of the Social Economy to sustainable development
T.3.- Cooperatives and the electricity market
T.4.- Social enterprises within the framework of the Social Economy
T.5.- The effects of education and training in cooperativism on members and their cooperatives
T.6.- Social innovation as a driver of social transformation processes in the most disadvantaged urban areas
T.7.- CSR in social and solidarity economy enterprises: public policies and strategic plans
T.8.- Tools for promoting gender equality in social economy entities
T.9.- Women and the Social Economy: A formula for entrepreneurship and contribution to achieving the SDGs
T.10.- Gender and the Social Economy
T.11.- Community public-private collaboration
T.12.- Emerging experiences of the Social Economy in Ibero-America
T.13.- Social Economy, volunteering, and the Third Sector in the face of inequalities

WORKSHOP FOR EDUCATIONAL COMMUNICATIONS AND DOCTORAL THESES WORKSHOP

Papers on the teaching of social economy and cooperativism will also be accepted. This includes teaching innovation projects, teaching methodologies, educational materials, the presence of social economy in new undergraduate and postgraduate programs, presentation of diplomas, promotion of business entrepreneurship in participation companies at different educational levels, among others. For this workshop, a maximum of one paper per author will be accepted.

Additionally, for those doctoral candidates in the advanced stages of their dissertation, a workshop will be set up to discuss it with more experienced researchers. The thesis project may be presented as a paper.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS AND DEADLINES

Proposals for papers will be accepted until November 30, with a length of 2 pages, including bibliography. Full papers must be submitted by February 28, 2023, and should be between 15 and 25 pages, A4 format, single-spaced, Arial 11 font, including abstract, 4 to 8 keywords, and bibliography.

Both the abstracts and full papers will be evaluated by the scientific committee of the XIX Congress, advised by an Evaluation Committee. During the second half of December, authors will receive notification of acceptance or rejection of their paper proposal.

Authors who wish to do so and indicate it may publish the full texts of their accepted papers in multimedia format with ISBN, freely accessible through the CIRIEC-Spain website. Prior to publication, these full texts will be evaluated by the Scientific Committee to ensure their scientific quality. Once accepted and included on the website, they will be considered published for all purposes, losing their unpublished status.
